Why am I not updating more these days? Well, mostly because life is trucking along the way I want it to and that's, well, boring! We're both pretty stressed out these days due to all the changes that we are experiencing. The changes are almost all good ones, but even good changes (for example; weddings) are sometimes painfully stressful. But, things are trucking along and we are so very excited to finally start moving on. Every few days I get all sad thinking about having to go back to Canada and be without Paul and then I remember - I don't have to do that again! Wedding plans are moving along (mom, I'm gonna email you today with our ring order, okay?), dog training is moving along (very, very slowly though, geez), paperwork and financial issues are moving along (I'm continuing to work my way through Paul's credit report making sure that everything is accurate and either paid off or being paid off. You should all do this! I've discovered two mistakes already that were negatively affecting his credit and I'm pretty sure that there are more), and we are eagerly awaiting our tax refund (American income tax forms are SO MUCH easier than Canadian!)
The damn dog is so ridiculously cute and such a MAJOR PAIN IN MY BUTT! He is learning a few things (very slowly) but he is not any closer to being potty trained than he was when we got him. This is all very new to me, I've never had a puppy, so I'm sure I'm not doing the best job, but he just seems to have no idea either. Waffles and Smeagol are not fans of each other yet. Well, okay, Waffles loves Smeagol, but Smeagol does not love Waffles. Waffles plays, and plays and plays and wants that play time to be with his new sister. Playing, however, cuts into Smee's 18 hour a day sleep habit. Waffles also very much likes to try and suckle at Smeagol's (admittedly absurdly large) teats. Needless to say, this is not particularly fun for her. Smeagol and I are also both on antibiotics so I have to remember to take my pills every six hours and I have to force feed Smee three pills a day.
The worst for me though (other than cleaning up 10 poops a day) is that Waffles cannot be left alone. At night or if I want a nap, I put him in his crate but he is A) getting rapidly too big for it and B) HATES IT. So, he will sleep there for a few hours but then he whines and scratches til I let him out and it is obviously me who does that since Paul needs to get his sleep for work.
This morning Waffles woke up at 6:30 and I got up and fed him etc and then realized that I had just enough time to make Paul breakfast in bed. We never eat breakfast but I know how important it is to do that and also I just assumed that Paul didn't eat breakfast cause I never prepare it. So, I started some pancakes and even got a dozen or so chocolate chips to sprinkle on them, when Paul emerged from the bedroom and winced at me. Apparently, we don't eat breakfast in this house because the thought of eating first thing in the morning makes us both want to vomit. So, I tried to be a good fiancee! But, Paul couldn't stomach the thought of food at 7 am. To be fair, I tried to eat them when he wouldn't and I can't eat that early either.
Anyway, so that's where life is at (how's my grammar?!) I'm very busy and enjoying it that way. We're somewhat successfully working on our finances and marriage plans and just generally feeling like we're movin' on

I'm glad things are trucking along for you. Sorry you and Smee are sick. Bubba isn't feeling well, either. So I'm sure I'm not far behind.
I may be able to give some tips on puppy training, if you are interested. It would be long, so maybe email would be better. Lemme know.
*I'm having issues with your word verification! I can't read the damn letters!*
Also, I don't eat breakfast until I'm at the office, which is over an hour after I've gotten up. But if hubby cooks breakfast I eat it, as I'm normally STARVED when I wake up. At least both of you have the same aversion, rather than one always eating and one not.
Have a good day!
American tax forms are easier than Canadian? Either you are using the EZ form, or I never, ever want to move to Canada.
Puppy training is the pits but the only way to do it for me (after 4 dogs) is to really really love being outdoors. The good thing is it can be enjoyed over a few coronas.
Take puppy outside on a leash with above mentioned coronas. Plop your butt down with puppy roaming around and begin drinking until puppy HAPPENS to pee outside. Reward puppy with loads of praise and kisses. Repeat.
Likewise, while indoors, watch puppy like a hawk and when the first sign of a pee happens pick puppy up and RUN to the door to get him outside. Even if only a few tinkles happen outside continue with loads and loads of praise and kisses.
This is the method we used with our past 4 dogs and it generally took about 2 weeks before they got the hang of it.
Be careful of pee mats. If you rely on them too heavily you can actually train your dog to use the mats exclusively over the outdoors and undoing that behaviour is a nightmare.

Regarding the tax forms...I dunno really what I was doing, but I used Online Taxes (which cost $7.95) and they prompted me for everything. "Do you have any W-2 income?" "Do you have any charitable donations"? etc. So I just answered everything. Granted, Paul has a very easy situation to deal with, but still, it was all very simple and intuitive.
Regarding the puppy training pads, I totally agree. I stopped using them almost immediately.
I took Waffles for his first real walk yesterday and he just hated it. It was torturous. I can't seem to train him because he never, ever EVER pees or poops outside so I have nothing to praise him for. On the plus side, he slept out of his crate last night (I just made him a little pile of his former crate blankets on the floor) and did really well. He didn't peep or poop or keep us awake. I was very happy about that.
