Ladies, help!

I bought a gorgeous dress to wear for my wedding. It is beautiful and it was cheap (so cheap its embarrassing). The problem though is that it has a plunging neckline. Its not at all obscene looking, but it is low enough that a regular bra would show. So, I need a bra that can handle a relatively large woman and yet not show under a low cut dress. I am considering the stick on deals, which I tried once when I was young and thin and a B cup and they worked then, but (here's me hesitating to divulge my bra size on my blog...) I'm not a B cup anymore (suffice it to say), does anyone out there have experience wearing the stick on bra deals or have any other advice for this situation. Because the dress was so very, very cheap, I would be willing to spend a bit more on appropriate underwear. I am, in fact, seriously considering Spanx for the bottom half of me, although I've never tried those either. I would love advice/comments on that as well.

Sorry, gentlemen, tomorrow I'll talk of football or porno or books about war or whatever you boys like.

I have a generous top half myself and anything stick on makes me leary. I highly doubt they'll be comfortable, they probably don't come in your size and they def won't give you the shape you want.

Go to a proper bra store with the dress and get a professional fitting. It's worth every penny (but be warned...it will be a LOT of pennies) and you might be surprised to see what you're TRUE size really is (I was off by 2 letters!!!!!!!!)

I second Reba's suggestion of going for a real fitting. Most women wear the wrong size bra. The fitting could be free, but then you'll have to pay for a fancy schmancy bra, but you are worth it.

No experience with stick on stuff, but recently wore a strapless bra for the first time in October. It was interesting, that's for sure. And oh, what I'd give to go back to a flipping B cup.

I have had a proper fitting and have nice, proper bras. The problem is that this dress is cut too low for any normal bra. The place where I bought it also had bras but none of them were low enough to not show in the dress.

I too am leery of the stick on deals, but I don't know what else to do. They may work though because although I am pretty big all around, my boobs are only medium big. I dunno!

Do I detect a hint of Denis Leary? And yeah, maybe duct tape! You could do what the stars do and just tape/glue the sides of the front to your chest. There must be somewhere out there with an appropriate bra, though... Looked around online?

Have you tried the plastic see-through thingies I've seen women wear? That might do the trick. Mom2

What I would suggest is a bustier (that spelling doesn't look right to me but I looked it up and that is apparently correct). I've found those to work really well and I would think you'd be able to find one to suit your dress. I first got one to go with a bridesmaid dress. I needed a bra that was strapless and backless. I spent quite a bit of money on it but it's come in handy several times now :) Good luck!

I'm not sure a bustier is going to work...I am assuming due to plunging neckline that the bra is showing in your cleavage?

If your boobs are perky enough to skip the bra then 1) I hate you and 2) double sided tape is the answer. You will only need a teeny tiny bit to stop the dress from gaping and showing your boobs.

If you require support then perhaps a sexy lacy cami under the dress to cover the bra part? If it is plunging below where the underwires meet in the middle between your boobs it doesn't matter what style of bra you get - that is always going to show.

The other option is to buy a totally outrageous bra that is MEANT to show ala Carrie on Sex and the City. Get a bright purple one or hot pink lacy one and let the world see your glorious cleavage AND sexy lingerie ;)

Yeah, Reba, you got it. I guess I was explaining poorly. The point is that the neckline is so low that the middle part of any bra would show in the deep V of the neckline of the dress. It totally covers my back and arms and everything, i don't need strapless or backless or halter or anything, I just need something cut really low. I think your suggestion was cool Reba, but I really don't want that look for my wedding, I really really just want something to hold me up and not show. I have looked everywhere and can't find anything which I find odd...i can't be the only woman to have ever had this dilemma. Thanks for all the suggestions, folks, keep em coming!

Hi! (Found you through comments on various blogs. And, I knew Paul way back when, while at UT.)

Have you thought just finding a really nice panel of pretty lace and sewing it in as far up the V that would cover a lacy bra underneath? If the bra is a sheer lace, and the panel is not a sheer type, then everything would be covered and it would still be a lovely dress. :)

Jenn, I agree with the two suggestions about 1) wear a camisole that will show (one that you find appropriate to go along with the dress) or 2) (which is my favorite) -- tack on some lace that will add the extra material to the V cut that exposes you, but I would get black lace, about 3-4 inches wide (if that's the amount that needs to be covered) and tack it in place for the day of the wedding, that way if you want to remove it, you're not having to pull out all those teensy tiny threads from a sewing machine. You might even gather it a little to make a ruffle -- WAIT, don't do that, I'm having a bad 60's flashback -- whew! Mom2

Hit a bridal & formal store--they'll have them. Oh, and the stickies only work if you're an A-cup. Don't waste your moohlah.

(38DD, I feel your pain. Wedding is in 4.5 months!)
