Oh! I forgot about this in the blog entry. We also went with Paul's parents to The Mine in Pigeon Forge. They all used to work there which was, in part, where they got their love of gems. I got to mine stuff! Basically you buy a big bucket of sand and then sit and sift through it at a flume and, lo and behold, there are gems in it! Then you take what you found to an assayer and they tell you what you found (and try to get you to pay them to make it into jewelry for you). Paul used to be an assayer there so they had him do it for me. The yellow tray contains what I found - some really pretty stuff. Apparently, and to no surprise to me, Paul was a great assayer because he is the biggest flirt and shmoozer in the history of the world.
