Ladies, (and possibly men) you know how sometimes you just need a good cry? Well, if you are looking for inspiration to start the weeping, you should probably click here . It's The 25 Most Exquisitely Sad Songs in the Whole World plus after you check those out, there are the top 15 reader's picks of sad songs. You can even listen to each song. The ones that pull my own personal strings the most are:
Dance With My Father by Luther Vandross
Paul likes to play this one for me because he thinks its 'cute' when I cry. Key phrase for me -
But could you send back the only man she loved?
I know you don’t do it usually
But dear Lord she’s dying
To dance with my father again
Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley
Does anyone write more poignant lyrics than Leonard Cohen? This song played at the end of the first Shrek so that I left the stupid theatre crying. After SHREK!
Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles
Come on! The strings, they kill me. And talk of lonely people usually pushes the tears button for most of us I think.
I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Rait
(Bernice, did you just flash on the Palomino Club?) Seriously. The whole chorus gets me -
Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these lonely hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't
Let me know what you think of these or what your fave sad songs are, m'kay?

Wicked Game by Chris Isaak gets me every time I hear it. Luckily it's not that popular anymore so I don't hear it often.
Did you hear Jordin on American Idol sing "I Have Nothing" ? BEAUTIFUL song, but just about rips your heart out of your chest to hear it.
One of my favorite songs of all time is Sting's "Why Should I Cry For You?" Picture a man on a boat in the dark night in the middle of the arctic thinking about love lost. Great stuff.
This is a good idea...I'll have to think about doing this on my own blog *steal*
I just looked at the online list and I actually don't know a lot of the songs. I'd likely know them to hear them but the titles mean little.
I know and love Hallelujah and Eleanor Rigby (anything by the Beatles, really). I always found Let it Be by the Beatles to be on the sad side but since I've recently looked up all the old Sesame Street songs on YouTube, it now just reminds me of Sesame Street's 'Letter B' and makes me laugh. Gotta love YouTube.
While I was typing this, Under the Bridge by RHCP came on the radio, also pretty sad.
I tried putting this comment on earlier but it didn't work so I tried again. So, if it comes up twice, you'll know why :)
You know, I actually thought that I Have Nothing song that Jordin sang was not great. It is VERY sad but I thought she oversang the hell out of it. It was just too much. But, I'm bitter cause my Melinda got voted off.
'The Good Stuff', by Kenny Chesney.
The whole song gets me, but I always tear up at these lines:
"Was the sight of her holdin my baby girl.
The way she adored that string of pearls,
I gave her the day that our youngest boy, Earl,
Married his high school love.
And it's a new t-shirt saying, "I'm a Grandpa!"
Being right there as our time got small,
And holding her hand when the good Lord called her up.
Yeah, man, that's the good stuff."
(I did it just now, just writing them down and then again re-reading it. *sigh*)
His 'Back Where I Come From' gets me every once in a while, too.
'Back where I come from
I'm an old Tennessean
Well I'm proud as anyone
that's where I come from!'
I'm not sure if it's because he and I went to the same high school and he reminds me of home or what.
I'll be the first guy to post on here about crying from songs (weak) but Everybody Hurts by REM almost always gets a lump in my throat. Don't know why, I just think it's a sad song. And I think Hallelujah is a very pretty song, but not sad to me. I'm going to go put on my blouse and skirt now. *cough*
EVERYTHING by Leonard Cohen is sad. Famous Blue Raincoat is one of my all-time favorites.
