My Giant

I just have to mention here that Waffles is a freakin giant of a Boston Terrier. We got a Boston, in part, because he was supposed to be of roughly equal size with Smeagol. Most websites say that Bostons are between 14-18 pounds, with 20-under 25 lbs being a 'heavyweight'. Waffles is less than six months old and when we weighed him today he was over 23 pounds. He is toweringly tall and skinny, skinny in that teenager-y way so he will definitely still get significantly bigger. How big can he get? What will we do if he becomes a 40 pound dog? Eep!

Sure your hubby didn't get screwed on his "purebred?" I've known a couple people who paid big bucks for what they thought were purebreds, and as the dog grew up, other breed attributes began to show through.

I didn't think of that, about the purebred or not, J. Hmm...I just figured some breeds do just have some that grow larger. But 40 pounds does seem a bit extreme for a Boston. Meh, you'll love him anyway, right?

I never thought of that, the most obvious answer! We did not pay big bucks for Waffles at all as there was no claim of his pedigree, but we were indeed told that he was all Boston. We get asked a lot if he is a boxer...I hope to God he is not half boxer. We live in an apartment!

I mean, yeah, we'll love him anyway, but we did not expect the monetary or exercise requirements that a big dog would need.

I think J is right. If both parents were boxers they would have papers and the seller could have charged a fortune.

Not that it matters. He is a cute little snuggle-bum and that's all that matters.

Also - our family dog weights 50 lbs and she still thinks she is a lapdog. She loves to cuddle and snuggle on the couch and in bed and with our tiny cat so....no worries, everyone will adapt :)

I have a solution if he gets to 40lbs: Waffleburgers.

Mmm, waffleburgers.

Had the same thing happen with Harley...he's a Beagle/Walker mix, and they estimated he would be about 35-40 pounds, figuring that the Beagle side would win out as he was pretty small when I got him at four months old. Yeah........he weighed 61 at the vet last month.

Gotta love him.
