Nice Stuff

Nice Thing #1 - So the problem with our immigration papers was that Paul needed to have filed a tax return for 2006/5/4. I filed for him the last two years but he didn't file for 2004 because...well whatever, he didn't! So, we were trying to locate his W-2's because he didn't have them. After a significant amount of trying to contact the places where he worked in 2004 we had nearly given up when it occurred to me that maybe the IRS keeps these things. DUH!! (Bear in mind that this is all totally new to me as a Canadian) So, they do and they sent us copies and it only took a week. I just spent the last 90 minutes filling out the 1040EZ, which was indeed EZ and not only is that now done BUT we should be getting a really nice refund. Now, we won't actually get the refund, but if I have dealt with everything in the appropriate manner then they will apply that money to Paul's student loan and that is always good. Cross your fingers for us! (By the way, I had to call the IRS four times I think throughout this and they were unfailingly nice, knowledgeable and fast. I couldn't believe it.) (Now the only thing that is preventing us from filing our next (last?) batch of immigration forms is money and another 6 or so hours worth of writing and form filling out on my part!)

Nice Thing #2 - We are heading to Chicago tomorrow. We are taking the advice of most and, time constraints willing, will drive around a bit, see a small portion of the Field Museum and get some Chicago style pizza or dogs.

Nice Thing #3 - Yesterday was the culmination of a whole bunch of bad days in a row and I was feeling, not only shitty, but lonely and like I had no one to talk to. I decided to call my mother in law. She was so nice and told me it would all be okay and was just generally sweet to me. I called because I wanted someone to make me feel like it would be okay, eventually. And she did. Not everyone gets to have a mother in law who they actually like, but I do.
