Psych 101

So, let's talk about my neuroticism for a bit, shall we? Here's a conversation that I had with my mom the other day in regards to self esteem:

Me - Some days I think 'geez, I'm awesome, why doesn't everybody in the whole state want to be friends with me' and then other days think 'holy crap I suck, how do I even have any friends at all'. Do you ever feel that way?

My Mom - Um, no.

Me - You always think you're awesome, don't you?!

My Mom - Well, yes, I really do.

So, which one of these would you say is normal. Does my mom only think she's totally awesome because she's like 73 and she better damn well by now? Or do you all think you're all that as well?

I have serious self esteem problems but not in the way you would think. I don't mind my looks TOO much even though I'm a 'big girl', I think I'm pretty smart and nice and genuinely care for others. And yet, here's a good example, no matter how many times my friends tell me that they like playing Scrabulous on Facebook with me and no matter how completely obsessed I am with the game, I rarely, if ever, start a game with any of them because I don't want to be pushy or clingy or irritating. I wait for them to start because then I know they want to play. Am I crazy? Okay, don't answer that. Okay, actually do. What's the deal with that all you smartypantses out there?

I think people are way too varied to say how someone views themselves is 'normal' or not. A better question might be which attitude is healthier, in which case I'd go with your mom.

However, if you want to know what is more common, it is probably yours.
