That Toddling Town

Before I leave for The City Of Big Shoulders I would like to ask a question. Why is Chicago considered part of the Midwest when, according to my map, Illinois is in the north and, pretty much, east part of the country?

Also, I would like you to gaze upon these two pictures of the dogs. By way of explanation I should say that yesterday was the first day that they managed to agree on the fact that they could both lie on their favorite chair. Most of the time they are scratching the hell out of each other so this was definitely picture worthy. By the by, I'm not sure why Smee's eye looks so weird, but rest assured she is not crying. And also, yes, that is how sad Smee looks all the time and how eager Wiffy looks all the time.

Illinois is dead smack in the middle of the Midwest! I don't know the "official" definition of Midwest, but from my own experience it seems the general large "center" of the U.S. is considered the "Midwest," as opposed to the other regions: South, Northeast, Pacific Northwest, Southwest, which are all on the outside surrounding the gooey center that is the Midwest.

Also, I DO think there is a general culture you can assign to each region, and the Midwestern culture has been my favorite, if a little too sticky sweet at times (I've now lived in all regions save the South, and have NO interest living there).
